The rooftop 'sky' open-air bath is the whole point - Mikawa Bay opens out in front of it, and day visitors can use it for 1,500 yen between 11:30 and 15:30. The water is a weak radioactive cold mineral spring, so it is heated rather than poured hot from the ground. A private open-air bath (2,500 yen per room for 45 minutes) and a stone-sauna floor can be added. Two things to plan around: day use runs Friday to Monday only, and the inn shuts Tuesday to Thursday outside the holiday seasons. No tattoo policy is published either way.

On the Nishiura peninsula in Gamagori, about 90 minutes from Nagoya. Free shuttle buses run from Gamagori Station and Nishiura Station. Note the inn closes Tuesday to Thursday outside the main holiday periods.
