A 12-room ryokan built around a garden that an international panel ranked among the top ten in Japan, and which holds two Michelin Keys. Every room has its own bath, which makes it one of the few places on this coast where a shared bath is simply not part of the deal. The spring itself is an ordinary weak radioactive one and the room baths look into the garden rather than out to sea, so come for the garden, the salons and the library rather than for the water.

The baths

In-room bath

Every one of the 12 rooms has its own bath - open-air, half-open-air or a glass-walled type depending on the room. This is the practical route for a traveller who cannot use a shared bath: you never have to undress in front of anyone.

The public areas include a salon with a private bath attached, alongside the library, tea salon and garden.

Getting there
In the Miyahama Onsen quarter opposite Miyajima, about 3-5 minutes by car from JR Ono-ura Station. Rooms are spread over a gently sloping 1,500-tsubo garden, so there are steps between them, though the ryokan can offer step-free rooms and keeps a wheelchair.
