Miyahama Grand Hotel
湯の宿 宮浜グランドホテル · Miyahama Onsen
Can you bathe here with a tattoo?
This is the question we built the site around, so we answer it per situation.
Visiting for the day
The tattoo policy is not stated publicly. A private (kashikiri) bath is available, which is often an option for tattooed guests.
Staying overnight
The tattoo policy is not stated publicly. A private or in-room bath is available, which is often an option for tattooed guests.
How it scores
Every onsen on this site is scored on the same five things.
The baths
Indoor bath
Two large baths, one facing southeast towards Miyajima and the Ono Strait, one facing southwest over the sea. Men's and women's sides swap daily.
Open-air bath
Two open-air baths: 'Marumie Roten' on the roof, with a panorama of sea and sky, and the rock-built 'Nozokimi Roten' reached from the changing room of the southeast bath.
Private (kashikiri) bath
Two private baths: 'Madoka' with a custom Shigaraki-ware tub (45 min, 2,000 yen plus tax) and the half-open-air 'Momiji' (45 min, 3,000 yen plus tax), both 16:00-22:00 for staying guests. 'Momiji' is also sold to day visitors for 3,800 yen on top of the bathing fee, but days and times vary and must be confirmed by phone each time.
A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.
