A one-inn hot spring on the Shogawa gorge with no road to it - the only way in is a 30-minute boat ride, and the boat will not put you ashore without a booking. Two mixed chloride and sulphate sources rise from the bed of the reservoir at 360 litres a minute and run free-flowing into rock-cut open-air baths at the water's edge. There is nothing else here: a fishing pond, the gorge and the boat timetable. Access scores the minimum, and that is the whole appeal.

The baths

Open-air bath

Separate men's and women's open-air baths built into the rock at the water's edge, facing the gorge. The women's bath has a large tub and a second small one hollowed out of the rock. Open-air and terrace baths run 6:00-21:00.

Indoor bath

Main indoor bath and a women's middle bath, available around the clock to staying guests. Free-flowing from a source yielding 360 litres a minute that rises from the bed of the reservoir.

In-room bath

Two Japanese-Western rooms with their own free-flowing open-air baths, plus a 200 sq m guest suite with a cypress open-air bath.

Overnight guests only

A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

Day visits exist but must be booked with the inn in advance, because the boat crew will not let you off at Omaki without a day-use or overnight reservation. The inn does not publish a day-use price online. The boat itself is 3,400 yen return for adults and 1,700 yen for children, about 60 minutes round trip, on top of whatever the inn charges. Note also that boat services were suspended in 2026 by low water in the Komaki reservoir and only partially resumed on 30 August 2026 - phone the boat operator before travelling.

Getting there
A single inn on the Shogawa gorge in Nanto that can only be reached by boat - there is no road at all. Take the Shogawa gorge sightseeing boat from Komaki port to Omaki port, about 30 minutes each way. You will not be allowed off at Omaki without a reservation at the inn. In the regular season (1 April - 30 November) boats leave Komaki at 8:30, 10:30, 14:30 and 16:00 and return from Omaki at 9:10, 11:05, 15:10 and 16:35. Boat services were interrupted in 2026 by low water in the reservoir and resumed partially on 30 August 2026, so confirm by phone.
