Ten private rooms and no shared bath at all - stone, rock and cypress tubs, some open-air, some in detached cabins - from 1,800 yen an hour for up to four people. There are no reservations, so it is first come first served, and only two of the ten rooms run free-flowing from the source while the rest fill fresh for you on a coin timer.

Scored from official photos, maps and transport information — not from a visit.

The baths

Private (kashikiri) bath

A family-bath-only facility with 10 private rooms and no shared bath at all. Tubs are variously stone, rock and hinoki cypress; there are open-air, semi-open-air and indoor rooms, with some detached cabin-style rooms lined up like bungalows and others in a terrace row. Two rooms are free-flowing from the source and the other eight are coin-operated, filling with fresh water for you. Chloride spring, surrounded by trees.

Open to day visitors

A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.
