A green-roofed Taisho-era building standing directly on the street outside Beppu Station, where you pick either the hot or the lukewarm bath - each fed by a different spring. Bare-bones inside, with a free hand bath out front and cheap bunks upstairs, and about as convenient as a Japanese bathhouse gets.
