The baths
Indoor bath
Sodium bicarbonate spring. The women's side is much the larger - roughly twice the tub and three times the changing room - because until the Taisho era this was a women-only bath. High ceiling, mint-green walls and arched windows; unusually for a neighbourhood bath there is a lobby with a vintage mirror and weighing scale.

- ¥300300 yen flat. Multi-use tickets are sold from a 500 yen capsule-toy machine (two tickets per turn), which can work out cheaper for a group. Closing days are irregular.

- At 11-15 Kusunoki-cho, in the nightlife area a short walk from JR Beppu Station - look for the banana-like basho plant outside. No parking. One of very few Beppu baths open until midnight.
