The cheapest way into Unzen's water at 200 yen, and the oldest bathhouse in the village. It is one indoor tub and a changing room - nothing to look at, nowhere to sit afterwards - but it sits in the middle of a mountain hot-spring village inside a national park, a few minutes' walk from the Unzen Jigoku steam vents, so you can walk out of the bath straight into the sights. Buses reach Unzen from Isahaya and Nagasaki but not often.

Indoor bath

One indoor tub. Listings agree there is no open-air bath and no private bath. Opened in 1934, it is the oldest bathhouse in the Unzen village and is nicknamed Dankyu-buro after the pickling barrels once used as tubs.

200 yen for adults, 100 yen for children. This is a bare-bones neighbourhood bathhouse: the Unzen tourism bureau lists no amenities, so bring a towel and soap. Four parking spaces.

Getting there
On a back lane of the Unzen Onsen village, within walking distance of the Unzen Jigoku steam vents. Unzen is reached by Shimatetsu bus from Isahaya Station (about 1 hour 15 minutes), by Kenei bus from Nagasaki Station (about 1 hour 40 minutes) or by Shimatetsu bus from Shimabara Station (about 50 minutes). By car it is about 50 minutes from the Isahaya IC.
