The cheap public way into Yunokawa, one of the three springs Japan calls a 'beauty spring', in a quiet valley ringed by hills near Izumo. A broad open-air bath with trees around it is the reason to come, and there is a rest area to sit in afterwards. It is a municipal day-use building rather than anywhere atmospheric, and it is worth confirming the new closing days - Tuesdays and the last Wednesday of the month - because they were only added when the city reopened it in July 2026 and most listings still do not show them.

Open-air bath

A wide open-air bath with trees planted around it, in the water of Yunokawa - counted as one of Japan's three 'beauty springs' alongside Wakayama's Ryujin and Gunma's Kawanaka. The salts in it are said to leave a film on the skin that holds moisture in.

10:00-21:30 (last entry 20:30). Closed Tuesdays and on the last Wednesday of each month.

¥700
700 yen for adults (high-school age and up), 500 yen for over-65s, 400 yen for primary and junior-high pupils and 200 yen for children from age 3. The bath closed on 30 March 2026 and reopened on 28 July 2026 under the city at the same prices as before, with new closing days added for maintenance - check them before travelling, as older listings do not have them.

In Gakuto, Hikawa-cho, Izumo, inside the Izumo Irisu-no-oka park. About 25 minutes on foot from JR Shobara Station on the San'in Main Line, or 10 minutes by car from the Hikawa or Shinji interchange; 120 free car spaces and room for 5 coaches. Izumo Taisha, the shrine most foreign visitors come to this part of Shimane for, is about 30 minutes away by car.
