The one bath in Tamatsukuri where the water comes with a view: an open-air bath facing Lake Shinji, which is what people come to this part of Shimane to watch the sun set over. It is a large hotel bath rather than anything characterful, and the water is piped in from the sister ryokan's source rather than rising here. Day visitors get a long window - from 6:00, and again from midday to 21:00 - and every guest room has its own hot-spring bath, which is a route in for anyone who does not want a shared bath. It sits away from the inn street, so the town itself needs the shuttle or a short drive.

Open-air bath

The only open-air bath in Tamatsukuri that looks out over Lake Shinji, separated by sex - the lake at sunset and the panorama at dawn are the reason to come. The hotel says the bath is screened from outside view, but keeps bathing wear available for anyone who would rather cover up.

Indoor baths for men and women with the same lake view. The water is piped directly from the spring of the group's sister ryokan Chorakuen in the onsen town.

Every guest room has its own hot-spring bath, so overnight guests can bathe entirely in private.

Getting there
On the shore of Lake Shinji at the edge of Tamatsukuri Onsen, 3 km or so from the inn street. The group runs a scheduled shuttle bus on the JR Tamatsukuri-Onsen Station - Tamatsukuri Kokusai Hotel - Chorakuen route. There is a restaurant open to day visitors.
