The city-run bathhouse in the middle of Shimabara, ten minutes on foot from the station and 530 yen. Free-flowing water in the main bath, plus a medicated bath, a cold plunge and a sauna, and a 55 sq m tatami lounge you can sit in afterwards. No open-air bath and no view - it is a town bathhouse in a town centre - but it is the easy stop between the Kumamoto ferry and the Shimabara Railway, and one of the few baths in the prefecture you can reach without a car.

In central Shimabara at Horimachi 171-3, about a 10-minute walk from Shimabara Station or Reikyu-koen Taiikukan Station on the Shimabara Railway, which is about 1 hour 10 minutes from Isahaya Station. From Kumamoto, take the ferry to Shimabara Port, then about 10 minutes by car, or a Shimatetsu bus to Shokokaigisho-mae and 5 minutes on foot.
