An open-air bath on the water at the Obama marina, rented privately for 50 minutes to one group of up to four. Sea in front of you at bath level, on a coast that faces west across Tachibana Bay. It is not cheap at 3,000 yen for the group, and you must book - but for a couple with tattoos it is one of the few sea-facing open-air baths in Nagasaki you can be certain of using. Bring your own towel.

The baths

Private (kashikiri) bath

A private open-air bath built out over the sea at the Obama marina, rented to one group at a time by reservation. Because the whole bath is yours, tattoos are not exposed to other bathers - though the operator has published no tattoo rule, so this is a practical workaround rather than a stated policy.

Open to day visitors

A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

At the Obama marina (Obama-cho Marina 20), on the Tachibana Bay side of the town, a short distance along the shore from the main Obama Onsen strip. Obama is about 50 minutes by bus from Isahaya Station. Booking is through the operator on 0957-76-0883.
