Guests with tattoos are refused entry to the facility, so private baths are not an option either.

The baths
Indoor bath
Indoor bathing with a high-concentration carbonated tub, jet baths and a sauna.
Open-air bath
Open-air bath set in a garden, which the bathhouse names as its point of pride.
Private (kashikiri) bath
Private rooms with their own bath, bookable until 21:00. Note that the tattoo rule is a refusal of admission, so a private room is not a way in.
A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

- Yes — you can bathe without staying overnight.10:00-23:00 (last entry 22:30; private baths until 21:00), open every day of the year.

- ¥1,5001,500 yen for adults on weekdays and 1,700 yen at weekends and on public holidays; 600 yen for children aged 4 to primary school. The price includes house wear, a towel, a bath towel, shampoo and body soap. Surcharge days exist. Outside food and pets are not allowed.

- At 305-1 Shimosanagura, Tateyama, at the southern tip of the Boso peninsula. The bathhouse describes itself as close to Tateyama Station on the JR Uchibo line, but gives no walking time.

Why not the train: the last leg to an onsen is usually a local bus with nowhere to put a suitcase. A fixed-price car is booked in English and quoted before you travel, tolls and fuel included.
