Can you bathe here with a tattoo?
This is the question we built the site around, so we answer it per situation.
Visiting for the day
Guests with tattoos are refused entry to the facility, so private baths are not an option either.

How it scores
Every onsen on this site is scored on the same five things.
The baths
Open-air bath
Billed as one of the largest open-air baths in the Chugoku region: a ground-floor rock bath among boulders and garden with a lie-down bath, and a second-floor 'sea bath' looking out to the horizon. The two floors are men's and women's baths that swap regularly. Free-flowing Kaike Onsen water (sodium-calcium chloride, 74.3C, 10.62 g/kg).
Indoor bath
Indoor lukewarm and hot baths, an electric bath, a high-temperature far-infrared sauna, a low-temperature mist sauna and two cold plunge pools of different depths.
Private (kashikiri) bath
Paid 'private spa' rooms (Western-style and Japanese-style) with free-flowing spring water, booked at the front desk or by phone. The base price covers two people; each extra adult is 830 yen and each extra child 300 yen. Loungewear is not included. Tattoos are not allowed here either.
A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.
