The baths
Open-air bath
'Tenku no Rotenburo', the sky open-air bath, reached by the inn's own cable car boarded from the third-floor courtyard and rising up the mountainside - you soak looking out over the Iya mountain villages. Simple sulphur spring. 6:00-23:00 for staying guests.
Indoor bath
Large indoor bath on the third floor of the building, 6:00-23:00.
Private (kashikiri) bath
Private open-air bath 'Takenoko no Yu', 45 minutes for 3,850 yen, 15:00-22:00; and three private goemon-buro iron-tub baths - 'Sagiri', 'Yugiri' and 'Asagiri' - 40 minutes for 2,200 yen, 15:00-21:00. The published slots start at 15:00, which is after day-use reception has largely finished, so day visitors should ask in advance.
A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.
