A village bathhouse in the green valley of Kamiyama, with a hotel, restaurant and roadside farm stand on the same site. The draw is the water - a slippery bicarbonate salt spring that leaves skin noticeably smooth - rather than the view, which from the semi-open-air bath is limited. Realistically a car trip from Tokushima city, and not an option with a tattoo.

The baths

Indoor bath

The day-use bathhouse 'Iyashi no Yu': main tub with bubbles and jets, a rotating event bath, a semi-open-air bath, sauna, cold plunge, a waterfall shower, a lie-down bath and a children's bath. The changing areas are floored with tatami. The water is a sodium chloride spring with bicarbonate that feels slightly slippery - the facility calls it a 'beauty bath' that leaves skin smooth.

In the mountain town of Kamiyama, about 40 minutes (27 km) by car from JR Tokushima Station. The official access page gives driving directions only, so plan on a car. It sits beside the Onsen no Sato Kamiyama roadside station.
