The easiest hot spring in Chichibu to reach: step off the train at Seibu-Chichibu and you are at the door. The water is an iodine-bearing sodium chloride spring that comes out of the ground at only 22 degrees, and the open-air rock bath is the tub listed as using it - several of the others are artificial carbonated or silk baths. What it does well is the day around the bath: 24 reclining chairs, a tatami lie-down room and a food court serving Chichibu's pork-miso and waraji-katsu rice bowls. A good first or last stop on a Chichibu day trip rather than a destination in itself.

The baths

Open-air bath

An open-air area with a rock bath filled with the hot-spring water, plus a flower-viewing bath, pot baths (tsubo-yu) and a lie-down bath.

Indoor bath

Indoors: a high-concentration artificial carbonated bath, a silky micro-bubble bath, jet bath, cold plunge and sauna (a salt sauna on the women's side only). Two private sauna rooms can be booked in advance.

10:00-22:00 (last entry 21:30). Morning bath on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 6:00-9:00 (last entry 8:30). Occasional closures for maintenance.

Adults 1,100 yen on weekdays and 1,380 yen at weekends, on public holidays and on special days; children 700 / 800 yen. The weekend morning bath is 890 yen for adults. Towels are not included: a rental bath towel is 200 yen, loungewear 300 yen, and a face towel can be bought for 350 yen.

Directly in front of Seibu-Chichibu Station on the Seibu Chichibu Line, and about 5 minutes on foot from Ohanabatake Station on the Chichibu Railway. No car needed.
