The most 'real' hot spring of the Chichibu day-trip baths: an alkaline simple sulphur spring at pH 9.3, used 100% from the source in every tub, including the cold plunge. All three open-air baths look onto the Mangan waterfall in a wooded side valley. Nagatoro's river rocks and the Hodosan shrine are a short drive away but nothing is walkable. The town bus from Minano Station makes it doable without a car; check the timetable before you go.

Day visits
Yes — you can bathe without staying overnight.
10:00-21:00 (last entry 20:30). Open every day, except for about three days around June for machinery maintenance.

Adults 980 yen on weekdays (750 yen after 17:00) and 1,200 yen at weekends and on public holidays; children aged 3 to primary-school age 700 / 800 yen (600 yen after 17:00 on weekdays). Lockers take a 100-yen coin that is returned.

Getting there
In the Hinozawa valley of Minano Town. From Minano Station on the Chichibu Railway take the Minano town bus bound for Hinozawa and get off at Chichibu Onsen (about 15 minutes), or take a taxi (about 15 minutes). By car, about 30 minutes from Hanazono IC on the Kan-Etsu Expressway via Route 140; free parking for 200 cars.
