The main inn at Fukuroda, five minutes from the falls, with a gorge-side open-air bath fed straight from the source, a garden bath, and rooms with their own free-flowing open-air tubs. The spring is a mild alkaline simple water at pH 8.9 and 40.1C: pleasant, not dramatic. The important thing for a visitor is that walk-in bathing has been withdrawn, so this is a place to stay the night, not to drop into. A free shuttle meets trains at Fukuroda Station.

Every onsen on this site is scored against the same written rubric, and every score has been reviewed by the editor. The ones marked Visited were also bathed in personally.

The baths

Overnight guests only

In-room bath
