A 5th-floor bathhouse looking out over emerald water to Ie Island on the horizon, which is as good as a hot spring view gets in Okinawa. The spring is a strong sodium chloride brine from 1,500 m down, out of a layer laid down more than 200 million years ago, and it is reheated - but there is no tap-water tub at all, so everything you sit in is the real thing. A 2020-build resort, so the fittings are new and the washing stations plentiful. Non-guests pay 2,150 yen. You are two hours from Naha and the aquarium is next door, which is the reason most people are up here in the first place.

The baths

Indoor bath

Two bathhouses on the 5th floor of the Ocean Wing looking out over the sea towards Ie Island, with 20 washing stations each. Men's side has a dry sauna, women's side a steam sauna. Special bathing garments are lent out on request at the desk.

6:00-10:00 (last entry 9:30) and 15:00-24:00 (last entry 23:00), open year-round
Day visit price: ¥2,150
2,150 yen per visit for adults who are not staying at the hotel, 1,000 yen for elementary school children, free below school age; bathing tax included. A ten-visit pass is 18,000 yen. Note that there is no tap-water tub - every bath here is the salt spring.

Getting there: In Motobu on the Churaumi coast of northern Okinawa, next to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and Ocean Expo Park. Roughly two hours from Naha by car or by the Yanbaru Express highway bus.
