Worth knowing about for one reason: it is the only hot spring found in Okinawa so far that will admit a tattooed bather who can cover up, using two 8 x 10 cm patches from the front desk. The water is a simple alkaline spring from 1,400 m down - pleasant, not distinctive - in a modern 8th-floor bathhouse with a sauna on each side and an outdoor-air cooling space, but no open-air tub. Non-guests can use it morning or late evening, and it stays open to 1:00 in the morning. American Village is on the doorstep, so there is plenty to do either side of a soak.

The baths

Indoor bath

A large bath at about 42C on the 8th floor of the main building, drawn from 1,400 m down, with an outdoor-air cooling space. Men's side: 90C dry sauna and a 14C cold plunge. Women's side: 45C mist sauna and a 30C tap-water bath.

Day visit price: ¥1,500
1,500 yen for ages 13 and over, 1,000 yen for ages 6-12, free under 6, in either the morning or the afternoon session; bathing and consumption tax included. Ten-visit passes are 12,000 yen for adults. Bring your own wash towel - bath and face towels are provided.
Staying overnight: Yes
Getting there: In the Mihama district of Chatan, beside the American Village shopping and entertainment complex, about 40 minutes by car from Naha Airport. Express buses from Naha stop nearby; parking for 250 cars.
