A large day-use bathhouse at the entrance to the Shiobara valley, and the one to pick if you want to spend the afternoon rather than take a quick soak. The water is run at 100 percent source strength without recirculation, and beyond the baths there is a walking pool with a jacuzzi, a sauna, a cold plunge fed with spring water, a rest room, private rooms, a shop and a shiatsu therapist. It is a road-trip stop rather than a scenic one: a car park, not a river valley, and the Shiobara hot-spring village is another 15 minutes up the road.

10:00-22:00 (last entry 21:00). Closed on the third Wednesday of each month (the following day when that is a public holiday).

Adults 800 yen on weekdays and 1,000 yen at weekends and on public holidays; primary-school age and under 400 / 500 yen; under 3 free. From 17:00 the adult weekday rate drops to 700 yen (weekends stay 1,000 yen). Massage and private rest rooms cost extra.

Getting there
At 1689-1 Sekiya, Nasushiobara, at the mouth of the Shiobara valley rather than in the hot-spring village itself, about 10 minutes from the Nishinasuno-Shiobara IC. There are 150 parking spaces; without a car, take a bus from Nishinasuno or Nasu-Shiobara Station on the Shiobara Onsen route and get off around Shiobara-guchi.
