The most remote of the Nyuto inns and the one cars cannot reach: get off the bus and walk about 25 minutes on a forest track, which is exactly why it stays quiet. Old timber buildings kept as a working cure inn rather than done up, with a paid bathing-wear zone that makes its mixed open-air bath one of the easier ones in Tohoku to try.

The baths

Indoor bath

Gender-separated indoor baths, the 'mountain medicine water' the inn is known for. Day visitors use them 10:00-15:00; staying guests 15:00-23:00.

Open-air bath

The mixed open-air bath and mixed sauna form a paid 'bathing-wear zone' (extra 2,300 yen) - bathing wear is required rather than optional, which makes this one of the easier mixed baths in Tohoku for a nervous first-timer. Staying guests use it 15:00-22:00.

Private (kashikiri) bath

The inn has a private bath reserved at check-in, but its FAQ states it is currently suspended.

Overnight guests only

A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

Getting there: The most remote of the Nyuto inns: get off the Ugo Kotsu bus at Nyuto Onsen and walk about 25 minutes on a forest track. Semboku City warns that cars cannot drive right up to Magoroku.
