The centre of Arima and the place to meet its famous kinsen, an iron-rich strong-salt water that oxidises rust-brown on contact with the air and is unlike anything else in Kansai. It is an indoor municipal bathhouse with nothing to look at and it fills up, but it is only a few minutes on foot from the station.

Scored from official photos, maps and transport information — not from a visit.

The baths

Indoor bath

Two indoor bathhouses, 'Ichi-no-yu' and 'Ni-no-yu', filled with Arima's famous kinsen — an iron-rich, strongly saline hot spring that turns rust-brown on contact with air. Body soap, shampoo and hairdryers provided; towels sold. The water is not drinkable here.
