Osawa-no-yu is an open-air bath on the gravel bank of the Toyosawa with the old wooden cure buildings rising behind it, and it is a strict mixed bath - the inn refuses swimsuits and towels outright, though there is a women-only open-air bath alongside. The Tojiya wing still runs as a self-catering cure inn with a shared kitchen, canteen and laundry, which makes this one of the cheapest places in Tohoku to settle in for several days.

Osawa-no-yu, the big open-air bath on the riverbank under the old wooden buildings, is mixed. Women-only every day 20:00-21:00. The inn's FAQ explicitly refuses swimsuits and bath towels in the mixed bath for hygiene reasons, so there is no cover-up option here - it is skin or nothing.

Kawabe-no-yu is a women-only open-air bath, the alternative if the mixed bath is not for you.

Toyosawa-no-yu at Sansuikaku is gender-separated and is the one Sansuikaku bath open to outside bathers; Yakushi-no-yu at the Tojiya wing is also gender-separated.

Private (kashikiri) bath

Sansuikaku has three private family baths (15:00-24:00 and 6:00-10:00, free to use when the key is in the door) but they are for staying guests only - the FAQ says day visitors may not use them.

A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

Adults 700 yen, children 400 yen, paid at the Tojiya (self-catering) wing - the Sansuikaku wing does not take day-use reception. Bath towel rental 110 yen. When busy the inn may limit you to about two hours or cap admissions; a day-use guest room at Sansuikaku is 3,300 yen per person plus 70 yen bathing tax.

On the Toyosawa river in the Hanamaki hot-spring valley, Iwate, reached by bus from Hanamaki or Shin-Hanamaki Station. The Tojiya wing is a working self-catering cure inn with a communal kitchen (gas 10 yen for 7-8 minutes), a canteen and coin laundry, so it suits long, cheap stays.
