Every onsen on this site is scored on the same five things.
The baths
Indoor bath
The Hiba Sennin-buro ('thousand-person bath') is a 160-tatami hall built entirely of hiba cypress with no supporting pillars, holding four different source waters (Netsu-no-yu, Hie-no-yu, Shibu-roku-bu-no-yu and a hot waterfall). It is mixed bathing. Women-only hours are 8:00-9:00, and the ryokan's FAQ states this applies both morning and evening. Bathing wear is optional but must be bought (women's, 1,300 yen) or rented (unisex, 500 yen from the shop, 7:00-20:00) on site - you may not bring your own.
Indoor bath
Tama-no-yu is the smaller bath and is permanently split by gender, so it is the option if you do not want mixed bathing at all. Different source from the big hall but the same acidic sulphur water.

Staying guests can reserve a free shuttle from Shin-Aomori Station (10:15 and 14:00 outbound).
