The baths
Indoor bath
Indoor bath, one each for men and women, sodium bicarbonate-chloride water that comes out too hot and is cooled with water. Open to guests 15:00 through to 9:00 the next morning.
Open-air bath
Three open-air baths - a rustic rock bath, a marble bath and a Kishu-maki cypress bath - usable all night. The inn stands on the Otogawa river, and in front of it the winter Sennin-buro riverbed bath opens from December to February.
Private (kashikiri) bath
Private open-air bath, free-flowing source water, 45 minutes for 3,300 yen, booked after check-in; reception 15:30-21:30.
A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

- In Kawayu Onsen on the Otogawa river, about 20 minutes by bus from Kumano Hongu Taisha - a common overnight stop for Kumano Kodo walkers. A member of the Hito o Mamoru Kai association of remote hot-spring inns.
